Eighth grade is a time of growth and change. In classroom 8-305, we study both English language
arts (reading, writing, grammar and spelling) and social studies (US
history from 1865 to the present).
In both US history and ELA, we will read, write, speak and listen.
This year we are implementing the Common Core curriculum (http://www.corestandards.org/the-standards/english-language-arts-standards). A student in 8-305 will
- compare, contrast, analyze and evaluate texts;
- use evidence to support his or her opinions and conclusions;
- write in a formal style and write descriptive texts;
- conduct research;
- and participate in class discussions.
ICS's grading policy
states that students' grades will be made up of tests and papers
(60%), projects (20%), homework (10%) and classwork (10%).
